In short: Zanshin uses only the cookies it needs to sign you in and keep your account secure. We do not use advertising, analytics or tracking cookies, and we do not let third parties set cookies through our site.
1. What cookies are
Cookies are small text files that a website stores in your browser. Similar technologies, such as your browser's local storage, let a site remember small pieces of information on your device. This policy covers both. It forms part of our Privacy Policy.
2. The cookies we use
All of the cookies below are strictly necessary. Without them you could not sign in or use your journal safely. Because they are essential, the law does not require us to ask for consent first, and we do not show a cookie banner.
| Cookie | Purpose | How long it lasts |
|---|---|---|
| Session cookie | Keeps you signed in and links your requests to your account. Marked HttpOnly and Secure, so page scripts cannot read it and it is only sent over HTTPS. | Until you close the browser or app. If you tick Keep me signed in, up to 30 days, or until you sign out. |
| Security (CSRF) cookie | Holds a random token that proves form submissions really come from Zanshin. This protects you against cross-site request forgery. | The same as your session. |
[Owner: list the exact cookie names here once the server is final.]
3. "Keep me signed in"
When you sign in, you can choose Keep me signed in. This makes the session cookie persistent, so the device stays signed in for up to 30 days. If you leave it unticked, the session ends when you close the browser or app. Only tick it on a device you trust. You can end every session at any time with Settings → Security → Sign out everywhere.
4. Local storage
The app uses your browser's local storage only for interface preferences, such as the last tab you opened and the last symbol you logged. These stay on your device and are never sent to us for tracking. The installed phone app and the Windows desktop app may also keep cached app files, so they load quickly.
5. What we do not use
- No advertising or retargeting cookies.
- No analytics or measurement cookies, including Google Analytics, pixels or session recording.
- No social-media tracking cookies or third-party cookies set through our pages.
Stripe may set its own cookies on its checkout and billing pages, which are hosted by Stripe, to prevent fraud. Those cookies are covered by Stripe's privacy and cookie policies. If we ever want to add a non-essential cookie, we will update this policy and ask for your consent first.
6. Managing cookies
You can delete or block cookies in your browser settings. If you block the essential cookies above, you will not be able to sign in. Clearing them signs you out. Your journal is stored in your account, so it is not affected.
